Samsung tv 55 8k11/5/2023 Photo: Dual LED tech inside The Frame TVs (John Archer) Samsung's new Frame TVs feature contrast-boosting Dual LED technology. The Q900T appears to be a (US-only) variant of the Q950TS without a one-connect box, while the not bezel-free but still attractive Q800T is positioned as a new, more affordable way into 8K that will be available in a range of sizes from 55 to 98 inches.ĭespite being designed to be affordable, the Q800T will still get Samsung’s full latest Quantum 8K processor, and a full version of Samsung’s new OTS+ sound system, which uses a 2.2.2 speaker configuration (two along the top, two down the side and two along the bottom) to deliver both a bigger soundstage and effects that seem to be coming from exactly the correct part of the screen. I talk about the Q950 in more detail in this separate ‘First Impressions’ article. And the impact this has on the directness of your relationship with the pictures your watching is really quite uncanny. ![]() The design isn’t in truth completely bezel free, but since what bezel there is comes in at under 2mm, it does become hard to see from a typical viewing distance. Even brand new, the Q700T is £700 less and brings with it the latest Samsung 8K developments. The 85Q950T boasts Samsung’s really rather lovely new ‘bezel-free’ Infinity design. The Q700T’s price is even more impressive when you consider that the 2019 Samsung Q950R 55in 8K QLED – the closest thing to a Q700T predecessor – launched at £2,699, and e ven a year on costs around £1,999. For example, the 65in variant of the South Korean firm’s 8K flagship, the Q950T, costs £5,999. Meanwhile, the larger Samsung Q700T 65in is priced at £2,699, which is still very affordable when compared to some of Samsung’s pricier 8K models. In fact, it’s only £200 more than Samsung’s 2020 4K flagship, the Q95T – the 55in model goes for around £1,599. Starting at £1,999 for the 55in model, the Samsung Q700T is easily the cheapest 8K QLED you can buy. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is supported too, including AMD’s FreeSync, allowing the Q700T’s panel to match its refresh rate to the frame rate of the game for tear-free gaming.įor the full next-gen gaming experience, however, we’d recommend opting for a cheaper model like the Samsung Q95T, which has VRR, ALLM as well as 4K 120Hz capabilities for a lower price. On the gaming side, the Q700T might be lacking 4K 120Hz support but it does at least have ALLM for automatically switching the TV to a low input lag Game Mode when certain gaming consoles are connected. There are eight built-in speakers on the Q700T and they benefit from a feature called Object Tracking Sound+ which provides “3D audio that moves around the screen with the action”. Through the Q700T’s Tizen 5.5 smart platform, you’ll be able to access most of the major streaming services, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus, as well as the free UK catch-up apps.Īudio support covers Dolby Digital 5.1 but does not extend to Dolby Atmos, and there’s also the option for eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) using the Q700T’s HDMI 3 input. The lack of Dolby Vision is unfortunate but expected, as no Samsung TV to date has offered support for this format. It’s the only 8K Samsung TV to come in a 55in size, and it’s also available in a 65in variant.Īs for actual HDR formats, the Q700T supports HDR10, Hybrid-Log Gamma and HDR10+. It also uses one of Samsung’s QLED panels, which is an LED-lit LCD panel that uses a layer of quantum dots to boost the TV’s brightness. ![]() ![]() Like all Samsung 8K TVs, the Q700T has a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 – that’s not double, but rather four times as many pixels as a 4K TV. Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, BT Sport, Apple TV, Now TV, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, YouTube etc. EARC, Dolby Digital 5.1, Object Tracking Sound+
